Your One Day Schedule For Magic Kingdom

Image : http://www.flickr.com

While it can be tough to really get your money's worth in a single day at any Disney theme park, you can still map out a great day and see a good chunk of it. You can map out the highlights that you absolutely must see, and then follow your schedule so that you don't miss anything.

One thing that you want to keep in mind with Magic Kingdom is that it is broken up into smaller park 'Themes'. If you choose attractions in each theme, make sure that you completely finish up in one area before moving on to the next. It is designed to get you too and from attractions much faster that way, rather than crossing the whole park jumping from Tomorrowland, to Adventureland, etc.

First of all, make sure you purchase your tickets ahead of time and arrive early. Lines are long early in the morning, so buying your ticket in advance allows you to save time there. Plan on arriving at the very latest, an hour early. Often times the parks will open before the listed time, and if you get there too late you will be stuck in a long line of traffic waiting to park.

Once you get inside, while it's tempting to shop around on Main St., save it for later. It stays open an extra 1 or 2 hours after closing so you can do your shopping at the end of the day, and not waste time or have to lug around a lot of merchandise.

Another thing you will want to note is that Magic Kingdom is built in a large circle, and you can start in either direction. Most people don't realize this and automatically turn right, beginning their day in Tomorrowland. You can be the smart little bug and turn left, beginning your day in Adventureland instead, and going against the crowd.

When checking out the lines double check that there isn't two lines that you can choose from. Hop into the shorter one, as often times folks miss that completely and don't realize a second line is open. Another great way to avoid lines and crowds is to hit the rides during parades. Be sure you are on the side you want to be on before it starts, otherwise good luck trying to cross over. And of course that is assuming no one is going to be particularly upset if you miss the parade in favor of popular attractions!

If you need a mid day siesta, plan on taking it inside the park somewhere. It is much easier than trying to leave and then come back later. Also plan on staying late, as the park empties out pretty dramatically after dark and often times you can pack more great attractions into the last few hours before close than you managed to squeeze in all day.

Also remember to plan for rain, as you are in Florida and it rains regularly. Pack a poncho and you can continue your journey without too much mishap. Also, it would behoove you to avoid Fantasyland during the day and visit it instead at night. It tends to be extremely crowded in the day time and is much more fun a journey after dark.

Obviously your schedule will vary based on your family and tastes, but some of the top attractions you will want to plan to see include Adventureland, Space Mountain, Tomorrowland, Frontierland, Splash Mountain, Haunted Mansion, and Pirates of the Caribbean. Of course there are many more attractions than that, and again you just need to choose what you want to see and map out your day. With a proper plan of action you should have a spectacular Magic Kingdom experience!

How to Organize a Great Outdoor Vacation

When some people think of vacations, they imagine sitting on a beach somewhere under the sun, sipping a fruity cocktail, and not doing much of anything. This is not an ideal scenario for everyone though. Many would prefer to seek out adventures and fun on their time off and sitting on the beach would bore them to tears. If you are more of an adventure seeker than someone who just wants to watch the waves roll in, there are plenty of vacation options available for you. From laid back outdoor adventures to land, sea, and air thrill, there are plenty of adventure vacations from which to choose. If you enjoy angling adventures, pack up your fishing rods and fishing reels and hit the water. If flying through the air is more your style, book a bi-plane trip and head to the skies. If it is wildlife you prefer, consider a safari or hunting adventure. There are a few concerns for those who want an exciting vacation, but for the most part, if you plan ahead and stay organized, you have nothing to worry about. Hopefully, a well-organized and safe trip will not take the fun out of it for the most daring of vacationers!

If you are planning an adventure vacation for the first time, consider booking a trip through a trip provider. There are many companies that organize adventurous vacations for those who have the desire, but no the experience to try something new. Since many adventure trips can be dangerous for the inexperienced, working with people who know what they are doing will help keep you safe. You can also speak with friends and family to see if they have any experience with adventure excursions. This way, you can get the input of people you trust before committing your money and safety to a trip. This is also a great way to find fellow travel companions. If your spouse or usual travel companions are not as adventurous as you, you may be able to find someone with your love of adventure if you ask around.

Once you have narrowed down your travel company options, it is important to find something that fits your budget, your timeframe, and your nerve. Even if you think you are up for an adventure, the idea of it and the actual doing of it are two different things. You may want to ease your way into a major adventure. For instance, if you are considering bungee jumping or skydiving, start off with a plane ride or ride along on someone else's adventure. This gives you a chance to get a feel for things and gets you up into the air so you know what to expect. Some people lose their nerve once they are in the air, so know how that feels before donning the parachute or bungee rope. In some cases, adventure vacations involve interacting with wildlife and nature. Be sure you travel with someone who is experienced and aware of the surroundings if they are unfamiliar to you. With a little planning, you can design a fun, safe adventure vacation.

Kids N Summer Fun

Image : http://www.flickr.com

You've read all the articles about inexpensive summertime activities. The ideas sound good, and you know keeping it simple is the best thing for your budget, but you can't help thinking, "Will my kids really enjoy a hike in the woods? They won't feel cheated if we have a picnic in the park instead of a Disney World vacation?"

When school ends it can send parents scrambling and searching to find things for the children to do. We look in the local papers and online of course only to find expensive camps and vacation getaways that will break our budget if allowed. What do we, as parents do, to entertain our children? When asked what was remembered from childhood summers I was astounded to learn the researcher found that kids remember not Disney Vacations but in fact the cheapest alternatives to summer fun. What was remembered fondly was the enjoyment children got out of spending quality time with their families. They loved going for ice cream on a hot summer night, you can also catch a good sale if you go on Wednesdays (wink, wink). Getting together with friends of theirs or yours for that matter and swimming in the pool also ranked high on their list of fun in the sun. Plan day trips with another family to the beach, or zoo- they give discounts on certain days of the week. Have the kid's friends over for a cooking class and teach the kids a simple an inexpensive meal they can prepare if age permits. Do crafts with the kids, have a cleaning or painting day if your home needs it. We recently had a day of painting the basement at our home and were told the kids had the best day spending time with the family painting, we even had our three year old involved- I'm still trying to remove paint from his cloths.

One fantastic memory I have of childhood was catching fireflies in my pajamas after having an ice cream pop from the freezer of course. We had a swing on the tree out front on our modest front lawn that we loved to go on at night which was a tradition I passed down to two of my three children. Our third child didn't experience it due to townhome living- but I'm sure he'll have other memories such as playing at the park across the street with all the kids from the area. My point is it doesn't take a lot of money to have fun with the kids if you don't have it, what they will remember doesn't necessarily cost anything.

In an economy such as the one we live in these days it is reassuring to know the kids will not miss any expensive Disney Vacation that we can't afford this year and will actually remember one that lesser means can provide.

Walt Disney World Vacations - Where the Magic Never Ends!

Planning a holiday to the world famous Walt Disney World Resort must be at the top of every child's wish list and is a holiday the whole family can experience together.

Disneyland Resort was the first of Disney's parks and resorts which opened to the public in 1959. During the 90s the park was expanded and in 2001 the park became a resort which has now been visited by over 515 million guests.

The resort has so much to offer the whole family and is best explored at leisure over a period of time, making the resort the ideal holiday location. Offering attractions, entertainment, dining, shopping, tours and much more Disney is perfect for keeping everyone amused and provide a once in a life time adventure for all.

Visit Thunder Mountain, Tinkerbell and her fairy friends, the Haunted mansion and more. Take a tour and discover the magic for yourself or you could watch one of the latest live entertainment shows.

See all your favourite Disney characters from your favourite, movies and cartoons. Visit them at their resort home or see them in action during one of the famous street parades. The street parades attract huge amounts of visitors and are a celebration of life where everyone can interact.

When visiting Orlando particularly Disney you want to ensure you plan your stay thoroughly so you don't miss out on anything of particular interest. Staying close to the resort can help save time and add convenience to your holiday experience.

Renting a Walt Disney World villa close to the resort is ideal for exploring not only the resort but also the local surroundings. Many sleep up to 12 people making large family holidays easier.

Affordable California Vacations

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Summer is nearer and for many of us, this means some time off: time off from packing lunches for the kids, time off of work, time off of carpool or simply some time off from the daily grind that is our routine.

If you can't plan that dream getaway this year, worry not, for there are many fun and mind freeing getaways right here in our own backyards.

Isn't it always so that we forget how incredible the place we live? To remember can remind us not to take for granted those who support and love us; too often, we can take them for granted as well.

Think about it, many people flock to Northern California for their vacation! Here we have a gorgeous mountain range, The Sierra Nevada, we have some of the best wine country in the entire world, we have coastal hideaways and tourist oriented cities, the great redwood forest, world-class resorts and restaurants.

In this article we'll look at a specific region of Northern California and explore some of the experiences awaiting you on your Sierra Nevada Foothill getaway.

Let's begin with the area largely responsible for the greater area developing, because of the Gold Rush, the Coloma River Valley and El Dorado County.

El Dorado County hosts some of the best getaway vacation spots in all the state. Located just 2-hours from the San Francisco Bay Area and between both major access roads to North Shore and South Shore Lake Tahoe, El Dorado County is an excellent choice for an affordable break from it all filled with variety. It's an excellent choice as it's a relatively easy commute from anywhere in the State and it boasts some of the richest history in all the United States.

The History:

James W. Marshall discovered gold in 1848 on the South Fork of the American River in the valley the Nisenan Indians knew as Cullumah. This event led to the greatest mass movement of people in the Western Hemisphere and was the spark that ignited the spectacular growth of the West during the ensuing decades. The gold discovery site, located in the still visible tailrace of Sutter's sawmill, in present day Coloma California, is one of the most significant historic sites in the nation -  Excerpted from the Marshall Gold Discovery State Historic Park website.

So often it's easy to overlook what's right here in our backyard, but truly, the epic Gold Rush took place right here. The park is as good a place as any to begin your local getaway. Onsite are many artifacts from the Gold Rush era, including a replica of the mill, still-standing buildings from the day, a museum and a nature trail wherein you can have a park ranger lead a walk through history.

Before you make your way to Coloma and the Gold Rush site, you have a decisions to make. Are you making a day of this? Is it just you and the family coming into town for a little history and picnic on the banks of the South Fork of the American River or are you planning a big family get together, reunion style, and you're planning to employ some of the built in barbeques they have available for your use. Is the family going to stay a day or multiple days?

There are campgrounds in the Coloma/Lotus area: Camp Lotus on Bassi Road, American River Resort on River Road. Perhaps an historic hotel suits your needs better or a bed and breakfast: The Albert Shafsky House in Placerville is a Bed and Breakfast, The Sierra Nevada House is right in Coloma and is an old hotel. Once here, what do you want to do? Are you looking for a day trip, such as wine tasting or rafting?

South East El Dorado County is recognized by the Viticulture Society as some of the best land for specific wine-grape varietals. Thus, some of the best wineries can be visited and tasted while you're right here. Personal favorites are Oakstone and Windwalker wineries both in Fairplay!

Maybe you want more than wine tasting, maybe you want wine tasting AND something else... there is so much to do but one of the greatest, most fulfilling options you can chose is whitewater rafting.

There are a number of rafting companies in the area. There are considerations to be made when booking your trip, but all in all, the whole host of companies is pretty darned good and customer oriented.

We encourage you to come whitewater rafting, raft a day or two or three. With the variety of outings available it's a great place for the whole family to meet up and reunion together. Those not into rafting, though it's good for most all ages and fitness levels, can find plenty to do for the few hours the rafters are on the water.

The historic town of Placerville, also known as Hangtown, and Dry Diggins, is home to the oldest hardware store in the west, a TruValue now. Too, the oldest newspaper in the west resides here in El Dorado County as well, The Mountain Democrat. You can make the 20-minute drive to Placerville and walk historic Main Street where you look up into building facades that have stood for 100+ years.

Want to really mix it up? Make plans to get up early and shoot up US 50 and spend a day in the beautiful South Lake Tahoe basin home to the Lake, hiking, biking, Desolation Wilderness, gaming, shopping, entertainment and the like.

Perhaps we'd all love to cruise the Mediterranean for a few weeks but it's simply not in our cards right now. You can head to the foothills of Northern California from anywhere in the State and be there within a day's drive. Once here, with some simple planning, you can have as fulfilling and diverse holiday as nearly anywhere in the world. Tens of thousands of people a year come to visit, shouldn't you? Happy holidays!

Hotel Hot List - The Hippest Hotels In Town

We all love to splash out - to make like a film star for the night, breezing through endless high-life bars, sipping cocktails and flashing the cash, then dragging everyone back to the hotel pad, where the party really takes shape.

Hotels are the ultimate - there's nothing more extravagant than spreading your clothes over the penthouse suite of some boutique guestroom, throwing yourself on the bed with room service at hand, ordering heavenly desserts at all hours and dissolving into the 007 fantasy with your choice company till dawn. Breakfast in bed, sipping on Margaritas and happiness in the knowledge that the bed will be made & the mini-bar restocked by midday.

If all that hedonism takes its toll, then a trip to the gym at brunch or a spot of self-pampering in the spa for an hour or two will compensate before swinging on by the lobby bar for some more superstar misbehaviour.

The Sanderson, The Metropolitan, St Martin's Lane, The Trafalgar - all belong to the fabulous world of hotel heaven. Their bars - The Purple Room, Met Bar, Light Bar and Rockwell respectively, home to the jet-setting glitterati of superstar lifestyle. If you're looking to grand it up, then a night in one of London's top boutique pads is the only way forward. Expensive, maybe. Extravagant, most definitely. But worth every penny, without a doubt.

You can group the A-list London hotels into three families. Firstly, there's the close-knit, touchy-feely family of the boutique hotels. These intimate surroundings could be as small as a cottage or as big as a mansion, but house no more than a few dozen rooms.

Blakes fits into this category. In this case, just a handful of rooms, which Anushka Hempel has decked out herself, travelling the world and sending back furniture befitting the various themes. Each room individually decorated from opulent Oriental to slim-line Mediterranean. The Hempel too has this intimate home from home attitude, though at The Hempel, the theme is crisp and airy, whitewashed walls with wispy drapes, sunken Japanese baths - it even has a private garden. At the boutique hotels, you will get the ultimate personal touch and are more than likely to cross paths with Elle or Kate at reception.

The next family is the bigger, modern variety of cool hotel. The Sanderson, St Martin's Lane, The Trafalgar and The Great Eastern all eat at this table. We're talking big, bold, busy buildings with a hundred or so rooms. They probably won't remember your name at reception, but depending on your behaviour that may be a blessing. With the modern variety, you still get the cool surroundings - the Space Odyssey lifts at The Sanderson, the art gallery lobby of St Martin's Lane, individually designed rooms and immaculate, staff in between modelling jobs - but on top of that, you get all of the mod cons. You'll get the CD & DVD player, the Playstation console, the chauffeur service, internet and the gym and spa. The bar will be bigger, busier and the service more anonymous.

The final family is the traditional family, where minimalism has no home, replaced instead by opulence and luxuriance. Here we're talking the Langham, The Mandarin Oriental and The Landmark. Grand, majestic hotels, where money is no object and where the top suites will set you back a cool £3k+ per night. The Mandarin Oriental is pure self-indulgence. You can have your own butler and spend the whole day in the spa, where you will while away six and a half hours having your face 'nourished', enjoying salt & oil scrubs, balanese synchronised massage (that's two masseurs working on you in tandem) and a luxury aromatherapy facial.

The bars of these superhotels are all well known in the right circles. The Sanderson's Long Bar and private Purple Bar, St Martin's Lane's Light Bar, The Rockwell (Trafalgar), I-Thai at The Hempel.- all offer that truly exclusive experience that makes for a perfectly extravagant night on the town. While the cocktail capabilities of your local Holiday Inn will be all but non-existent, in the grand world of exclusive hotels, drinks are a speciality. Trader Vic's and Zeta (London Hilton) have inspired many of the best mixologists about. Rockwell houses over 100 bourbons, The Whiskey Bar at The Athenaeum offers one of the best whiskey selections in Europe and the Purple Bar a knock-out array of vodkas. Then when it comes to cocktails, they come into their own. Bars like The Met, The Light and The Long Bar are supreme masters in their class, conjuring up the most magical potions and offering page after page of temptation.
Everyone moans about getting home from the West End after a night on the razz, but remember, credit card permitting, there's always the option of finishing the night in style, sleeping it off in comfort and lavishing yourself with a touch of the grand life.

The bars of London's top hotels are unarguably a breed of their own. Sophisticated and speckled with celebrity faces, they are the unsung heroes of the bar world. The Met Bar (Metropolitan Hotel) has forever been known for its celebrity scuffles and the paparazzi hang at the door like starved vultures. Schrager's sexy little numbers are all bursting with creative flavour. Be showered with colour under the smiling light-wells of the Light Bar (St Martin's Lane), be bathed in the heavenly glow of The Long Bar (The Sanderson) while big blue eyes watch you from the seat backs or be flooded with luxury at the jaw-droppingly beautiful Purple Room (The Sanderson), its cut crystal and granite bar probably the most visually stunning place to prop yourself at in the world (though you'll have to book a good room to get in!) The old dames of the hotel world offer some real old school glamour in their bars. The Hilton Park Lane's Windows Bar with its top-floor views across London and exotically themed Trader Vic's in the basement are two founder members of the hotel bar scene.

For something seriously slick and ultra contemporary, head to Blakes or The Hempel or recently refurbished Mandarin Bar to sip cocktails with London's most fashionable. Get intimate in the dark-wood sophistication of the GE Club (Great Eastern Hotel) or spread yourself about at the commodious Rockwell (The Trafalgar) and equally spacious Axis (1 Aldwych). Spend winter in the cosy warm environment of 190 Queensgate (The Gore) or summer soaking up the Noho vibe at open-fronted Charlotte Street.

Wherever you end up, grab a seat, pick up a Watermelon Martini and sip yourself slowly into the high life.

Disney World Tickets - Should I Be A Park Hopper?

Image : http://www.flickr.com

I have been traveling to and advising people on their Walt Disney World vacations for over a decade. The subject which I get asked about most is Walt Disney World tickets. To choose the ticket which is right for you does need a little research to understand all the options available.

Beginning in January 2005 Disney introduced Magic Your Way tickets. You start with a Base Ticket for the number of days that you wish to visit the four theme parks - Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, Disney MGM Studios and Animal Kingdom.

Your first decision is how many days you need. The per day cost of each Magic Your Way ticket reduces the more days that you buy. For example, a 1 day adult Base Ticket is $71.36. If you buy a 5 day adult Base Ticket the cost is $219.39, so the cost per day is $43.87. A 10 day Base Ticket is available for $230.04, so the cost per day is $23.04. As you can see, the price difference between a 5 and a 10 day Base Ticket is only $11. These prices are all for Magic Your Way Base Tickets purchased at the Disney World gate and include tax.

There are three add on options to decide upon.

1.The No Expiration Option

All Base Tickets expire 14 days after they are first used. If you add this option the days that you have not used never expire. The cost of this depends on how many days you have on your Base Ticket. It ranges from $10.65 for a 2 day ticket, $58.58 for a 5 day ticket, and $165.08 for a 10 day ticket.

So it can work out to be an expensive option. Think very carefully about it. Will you remember where those tickets are in 5 years time?

2. Water Park Fun and More

The base ticket covers admission to the 4 theme parks. If you want to visit Blizzard Beach,Typhoon Lagoon,Disney's Wide World of Sports or DisneyQuest you need another ticket.

You can buy these separately but it makes sense to consider if it will be cheaper to add these as an option to your Base Ticket. The extra cost is $53.25 to add to any Base Ticket. You get a set number of extra visits to the add on parks according to the how many days you have on your Base Ticket. So with a 1,2 or 3 day Base Ticket you would have 3 visits, and up to 6 visits with a 10 day ticket.

Generally if you are going to visit one of these add on parks more than once then it is a good deal. A single day water park ticket is $41.54.

3. Should I be a Park Hopper?

No matter how many days you have on your Base Ticket this option is a flat rate cost of $47.93. So it may be a good option for a 10 day ticket but not so great for a 2 day.

You need to give some thought to this feature. This allows you to start off in one park and then travel to other parks on the same day. As someone who has been to the parks many times I would say that we use the Park Hopper facility a good deal. The reason for this is that I know the parks very well, so if I find that where we are is too busy, or I just want to go to one of our favorite restaurants in a different park then I will travel to another park.

However, I would suggest that sometimes Park Hopping is not for the beginner. if you are visiting for the first time you may not realistically need this feature. It takes time and some planning to get to another park - they are all located a distance apart from each other, and even when you have traveled to the next park, you still have to spend time getting through the entrance plaza. So think about this one carefully. Just take a little time to understand the options and you will know how to choose the best Magic Your Way ticket for your vacation.

Best Vacation Places For Families With Kids

Family vacations are not that difficult to plan, but the one priority is that it needs to be fun for all involved. There needs to be a bit of something for everyone. The type of family vacation you choose will depend on the things that interest your children. Some children are sports oriented and their idea of a fun vacation may be very different than children who are more scholarly. Both of these vacation ideas leave a lot of options for parents to consider as they try to decide on what will be the best vacation places for them and their kids.

Whether your children are young or teenage, one place that both age groups will love is Disney World. For parents there are numerous golf courses that are award winning designs and these provide a calm and relaxed atmosphere where you can de-stress. For the kids there is the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex. This is a fascinating place with over 50 sports available all in one area.

One of the most popular attractions for kids as well as parents is the Walt Disney World Speedway. Whether you are a driver or you want to be in the passenger seat, this ride is a thrill of a lifetime. There are a number of different driving options to choose from and both kids and parents will have a blast driving the speedway just like Richard Petty.

Needless to say, Walt Disney World is one of the best vacation places for families with active kids, but for those who are more scholastically inclined, and love the learning experience a vacation can provide, then nothing is better than visiting Washington, DC. This is a town filled with learning experiences for kids and one that many parents enjoy as well.

One of the best times of the year to be in DC is during the springtime when the cherry blossoms are in full bloom. For adults this is a wonderful and relaxing walk that many love to take during the morning hours. Some of the most sought after tickets are ones for the Terra Cotta Warriors exhibit. This is a glance back into history that will fascinate both young and old. Included with your tickets to this amazing exhibit is a fascinating 60 minute film showing research done inside the tomb of the first emperor of China.

If you and the kids are still thirsting for knowledge, then head over to the Smithsonian Institute where there is something for everyone. A favorite exhibit for kids is the Air and Space Museum. Children will be amazed at the massive exhibits of everything to do with flying. Follow that with a visit to the planetarium show, which gives children and parents an amazing show that is a tour of the universe.

These are just a few of the things you and your children can do when you're looking for the best family vacation for you and your children. There is a world of possibilities out there for any family to discover while relaxing and having fun. It's even possible to combine both learning and high intensity activities together if your children are so inclined. America offers a vast range of experience for any family to enjoy, and ones that will be satisfying to everyone.
